About SmartCents
Free Australian money calculators, all in one place, that show their working. No sign-up and nothing to sell you.
Why I built it
SmartCents started as my own project. I work in IT in Sydney, and I wanted every money calculator I use in one place, up to date and easy to use. The ones I kept finding were spread across different sites, out of date, cluttered, or asking for my email so a lender could call me.
So I put the ones I wanted in one place: pay and tax, HECS, super, mortgages, stamp duty for every state, loans, leave and redundancy, and tools for sole traders. They share the same up-to-date rates, so a figure on one page matches the others.
It's independent. No bank, broker or super fund owns it, and no calculator is set up to steer you towards a product.
How I check the numbers
- Official sources only. Tax, the Medicare levy, HECS/HELP, super and termination payments come from the ATO. Stamp duty comes from each state and territory revenue office, and leave and redundancy rules from the Fair Work Ombudsman. Every page links to the sources it uses.
- Updated when the rules change. Each calculator shows when its rates were last checked (currently September 2026).
- Tested before anything goes live. I work out examples by hand from the official rates, and a change can't go live if any calculator disagrees with them.
- You can check my working. Each calculator explains how it gets its answer and what it leaves out.
Spotted something wrong or out of date? Tell me. I read every message, and fixing mistakes is the part I care about most.
What I don't do
- No sign-up and no paywall.
- I never see what you type. Everything is calculated in your browser.
- I don't sell leads to lenders, brokers or advisers.
The fine print
SmartCents is general information only. I'm not a licensed financial adviser or tax agent, and nothing here is personal financial, tax or legal advice. For decisions with real consequences, talk to a qualified professional, the ATO or Moneysmart.
